NIGHT IN BETHLEHEM
Imagine a little village that existed long before colored lights, reindeer, or Santa Claus. Cautious Roman soldiers patrol the crowd, shops and shopkeepers inhabit a bustling marketplace, and welcoming cheer abounds. Yet, this village is on the brink of something immense, the birth of one who would forever change the course of human history! Experience this village as it really was. Come to Bethlehem and see for yourself the magic and wonder of the first Christmas.
“A Night in Bethlehem” will be hosted at Outreach Christian Church, 620 S. Commercial in Smithville on Dec. 10 from 4 to 8 pm. There is no charge, and everyone is invited. You may arrive anytime between 4:00 and 7:00 pm in order to allow yourself plenty of time to go through the shops and see the nativity.
Families can explore the busy marketplace and have the opportunity to make and take crafts to help them feel a part of ancient Bethlehem. An outdoor stable with live animals will await the visitors. A jewelry shop, carpenter shop, pottery and music shops are just some of the activities planned for the evening.
Of course no trip to Bethlehem would be complete without encountering the tax collector. A bag of coins is provided to each participant to prepare for their meeting with the tax collector. A variety of food from Bible times and tour of a Jewish home will also provide for an authentic experience.
